Foundation year (Applied design)

Here are some of the projects that I worked on during my foundation year (2015 – 2016). The first half of the year involved experimenting with various different pathways within the arts, but I later chose to specialise in Applied Design.

Constructive drawing

Marble Run

For the first project the goal was to make a constructive drawing out of whatever materials we could find.

This was a group project where the objective was to make a functioning marble run out of whatever materials we could find. To our surprise, it worked very well.

Fine art taster – Repetition

For the Fine Art taster session, we were given the task of creating some work based on the theme of repetition. I made a few pieces utilising repeated shapes.

Fashion taster session – Scarf making

The fashion taster session involved creating designs for a scarf. Mine consisted of a geometric rendition of a snake.

Applied design taster – Stencils and cutouts

The applied design taster session involved messing around with cutouts and stencils. I had this idea to cut out stencils of sea creatures and then project them onto a wall.

3D album covers

For my final major project for applied design, I set about making 3D renditions of existing album covers that I like. I created these by tracing the designs on Adobe illustrator, cutting them out using a laser cutter, then sticking them onto blank CD cases.
